Avoca Public Library Board of Trustees Minutes for February 2026

Regular Meeting of the Avoca Public Library Board of Trustees                 

6:00 PM February  9, 2026

Present:  Kathy Denning, Becky Bahnfleth, Mary Beatty, Amy Pattee, Amy Parker, Gary Schultz, librarian Sebrina Lewis, absent Denise Suedkamp.

Public Comments: None

Secretary Report: The minutes of the January 12th 2026 meeting were read, approved

Financial Report: Savings   MSB $ interest    CD SCSB   no report $15,394.88 7/26/25    LPL $163,186.99. CFWI fund no report $182,765.12   PCCF Library Fund no report $ 500,808.42   Memorial Fund $ 43,525.65. City Administrator will investigate these accounts.

Librarian’s Report:
1. Jeremy Hall completed Youth Service Endorsement 30 hr. CE/3yr.
2. D&D events were attended by 6 adults on Wed an 11 adults and youth on Sat.
3. Adult craft class attended by 16 to make roses from book pages.  
4. Author visit by Lesley Krummel attended by 40.
5. AHSTW Literacy night was rescheduled to Friday limited attendance
6. Jr Federated 15 attended history of library presentation by Jeremy Hall
7. ILOC January 29th was attended virtually theme celebrating 250th year USA by Sebrina Lewis. The key note presentation may be watched as a group at the library at future trustee meeting.  
8. Pottawattamie County Board of supervisors meeting was attended by Sebrina Lewis representing Avoca library and CB library
9. distributed letter explaining levy change and enrich Iowa report.

Scheduled events at the Library Movie Monday February 23th 10:00 AM Story time every Wednesday at 10:30 AM & Daycare outreach. Friday Club at 1:00 Book clubs 2x League of Human Dignity 2nd Monday 1-3:00. Sensory Friendly Field trip February 23th.  Marne Elkhorn Internet safety February 11th 1:00 RSVP 9 participants so far.  Adult Craft Class February 11th 6:30-8:00.Center for Rural Affairs Program Garden to Market  February 28th 9:45-11:45

Old Business: 
1. Trustee handbook can be viewed at https://www.statelibraryofiowa.org/ld/c-d/continuing-ed/conted-ials/archives-webinar   
2. local landscaping companies Pauley Landscaping Gabe Pauley and Martins Lawn Care Christian Davis were contacted to give ideas and estimates to improve landscaping in three areas around the library to include edging, low- maintenance plants and annual service with high/low estimates ranging from $6000-$15000.
4. Apollo (Biblionix) changed over 1/13/2026 Follet reimbursement was $610.75.
5. Library roof leaks addressed by public works with caulk added to the flashing. New stain on window needs investigated.

New business:
1.  The bills and hours were approved and signed by M Beatty and A Parker.  
2.Gifts and memorials of Jr Federated Grandchildren 3 books billed $ 48.08 returned to fund. Review of a letter of application for small library donation from Warner trust
3. Update announcements from new city administrator Shawnna Silvius reviewing employee hours, investigation of monetary accounts, information on revenue/controversy and legislation on noise cameras, march 4 attendance of league of cities meeting
4. Summer performer Overall Buddies June 10 Story Time spending of $350 from memorial funds moved by A Parker 2nd M Beatty Approved.
