I am not ashamed to admit it, I judge a book by its cover, and in this case, by its title too. The Infinite Sadness of Small Appliances, by Glenn Dixon, grabbed me with its title and kept me all the way through. In this story, humans and their appliances are controlled by the “grid,” and humans are gradually losing the ability to make decisions for themselves, from where and when they are able to travel, to how many children they are allowed to have. There are some humans who are not willing to accept this, and some appliances who aren’t either. This book will give you a lot to think about, and you may look at your robot vacuum and smart watch a little differently.
